Hygenall® is a Heavy Metal surface decontamination cleanser system originally invented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.  

  

According to U.S. Government and independent tests, Hygenall® is the most effective system for removing Toxic Heavy Metals from the skin and other surfaces.  Common soap and water is not an effective means of removing Lead and other Toxic Heavy Metals from the skin. 

  

Hygenall® washcloths and wipes consists of a specially textured material to which a special formulation is applied. This technology is referred to as a "system" of removal of Toxic Metals because the method incorporates four critical elements that work together to dislodge, capture and remove metals adhered to skin. 

   

The technology involves:   

 1) Mechanical removal with a cloth specifically designed for lifting Toxic Heavy Metals;

 2) Surfaction of elemental cations using ISML;

 3) pH adjustment using Citric Acid;

 4) Chelation (not using EDTA) using Citric Acid to form water-soluble metal-citrate complexes.

NIOSH Posts New Database Resource on Rates, Trends in Elevated Blood Lead Levels 

 

CDC recommends Hygenall® to combat firing range lead exposure.

 

NIOSH research shows that washing hands with soap and water is not completely effective in removing lead (and other toxic metals) from the surface of the skin [NIOSH 1992b; NIOSH 1996; NIOSH 1999].  To remove lead from skin, NIOSH researches recently developed a novel and highly effective skin decontamination / cleansing method [Esswein and Boeniger 2005].

 

Hygenall® Industrial™/FieldScrub™ > 99% Effective at removing Lead - In an independant study, Hygenall® washcloths were shown to reduce Lead applied to the hands by 99.1%.  These results compare favorably to previous tests performed at CDC/NIOSH.
